Sen. Santiago calls on students to join ‘net revolution’ against corruption

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago is calling young students to use the social media in the fight against traditional politicians in the coming May elections.
Speaking at a recent symposium spearheaded by the UP Student Council in Manila, Santiago said young voters should use the internet to determine the fitness of the present batch of senatorial candidates to be in office for the 16th Congress this July.
The feisty senator claimed that Philippine politics is dominated by two kinds of clowns: rich clowns; and poor clowns hoping to become rich, both of whom resort to political antics and cheap gimmickry.
She added in the internet, it is not possible to bribe all the netizens in cyberspace, thus preventing rich clowns in bribing press and broadcast journalists to gain added illegal advantage over their competitors.
Santiago noted that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are the so-called big three social media services. Facebook is the premier social media service in the world. Twitter is an online social networking and micro-blogging service, while YouTube provides a forum for the distribution of video content, particularly eyewitness features of political protests.
